AIU East Zone Inter University Chess Tournament (Men) begins at USTM

9th Mile, January 8, 2024 – The University of Science and Technology Meghalaya (USTM) has inaugurated the AIU East Zone Inter University Chess Tournament (Men) here today. The inauguration was graced by USTM Vice Chancellor Prof. G.D Sharma, Pro-Vice Chancellor Dr. B.K Das, Advisor Dr. R.K Sharma, and the Chief Arbiter of the tournament Mr. Biswajit Bhardwaj.

Prof. GD Sharma, in a ceremonious gesture, hoisted the inauguration flag and delivered an inspiring speech, setting the tone for a competitive yet sportsmanlike tournament.

A remarkable turnout of over 130 players representing 26 universities added fervor to the event, showcasing the growing enthusiasm for chess in academic circles. Some of the participating universities include Adamas University, ABVU, JU, university of Calcutta, jadavpur university, West Bengal state university, Patna University, CSTVU, PT Ravisankar Shukla University, BHU, KIIT, TU, Munger university, HYV, DSPM, Sant Gahira, MGKVP, MSCB, Manipur university, vidyasagar university, SNPV, Utkal University, and USTM.

The tournament will end on January 11, 2024. USTM has recently successfully hosted the AIU East Zone Inter University Women’s Chess tournament from January 3 to January 6. The objective of the effort is to promote chess as a thriving sport within the university community.

The organising secretary of the tournament is Mr. Saikat Majumder who is working with a dedicated team. Ms. Rishiparna Choudhury, Dean of Students Welfare, USTM, extended a heartfelt vote of thanks, expressing gratitude to participants, organizers, and contributors.
